Real [ree-uhl, reel] adj 1. true and actual; not artificial
Food [food] n 1. something that nourishes, sustains, or supplies
You will find many varying definitions of ‘Real Food’ out there on the internet. There are also many varying ways of eating that include Real Food.
There is no one right way to eat for everyone!
Whether it’s Paleo, LCHF (low carb, high fat), vegetarian, vegan, eating clean, 5:2 Intermittent Fasting, The Mediterranean Diet, The Alkaline Diet, 80/20 and the list goes on….. at the heart of all these ways of eating – is Real Food.
Real Food Families is all about helping your family to eat more of the food that nourishes and sustains us by supplying the nutrients our bodies need. Our bodies simply can’t get these essential nutrients from the highly processed, packaged foods that we find so readily on the supermarket shelf, the local take away shop or even most school canteens.
Real Food is Made from Food!
Real food has limited ingredients, and those ingredients themselves are actual food. If you find yourself unable to read an ingredient on the label, then chances are, you are looking at a ‘food-like substance’ that was made in a laboratory and not real food.
Here is what Real Food means to me.
Real Food is…..
Nourishing and healing
Something you prioritise and prepare
Something you share with those you love
All the colours of the rainbow
Something you can grow yourself at home
Full of essential nutrients & enzymes
Made from food
Real Food is not…..
Full of harmful additives
Made in a laboratory
Full of growth hormones and antibiotics
Being on a “diet”
How will Real Food work for my family?
Every family is different, and what works for one, may not necessarily work for another.
It can take some trial and error to work out which way of eating is going to best suit you and your family, so be patient.
Some families work on the 80/20 rule – 80% real food, 20% whatever else you want to eat.
Some families start by introducing more real food at each meal and work their way up and some jump in with both feet yelling “bring it on!”.
However you want to start making changes, Real Food Families can help. Check out the ways you can work with me here.
